Quartz counters are man made. Check out how they are made.

It depends on your architecture. So-called man made solid surfaces to me look more at home in more contemporary architecture. In this photo you can see the kitchen counters are solid surface material such as Caesarstone.

I love soapstone. I like no maintenance and lots of character .. there is something really down to earth and comforting about soapstone. I would never install granite - although at first glance a honed granite doesn't look too bad.

I prefer granite. It is classic and real, natural stone. Quartz is man made and in my opinion, looks fake and plastic.
One needs to consider that granite needs to be sealed at least annually, and is not as impervious to things like hot pots as one may think.

Solid Corian. Get stain? buff it out. Get a cut or an abrasion? buff it out. No need for expensive contractor repairs. do it yourself.

Not natural? Do you have a natural sink and refrigerator and stove? There ain't noth'in "natural" in a kitchen. Besides I have a ghost in my house that like to write on stone and granite after its been installed and accepted and the installers have gone.

Want Natural? go with wood block.

Granite always makes me think there are spills on the counter that I need to wipe up. All those swirls.

Get what YOU like. Nobody else's opinion matters.

Your house is man made. So is your car. And the clothes you wear. And the computer you typed this on.

True, but we are discussing countertops in this thread.

I just prefer real, natural, granite countertops over quartz, which by comparison, looks fake and plastic by comparison. That is my opinion, other people like the quartz look.

I enjoy rolling out pie crust, cutting out sugar cookies, etc on my granite. I love the classic look of granite as created by nature. In my opinion, no counter that is manufactured or engineered by man is as beautiful as the natural creation of granite.

Why is "natural" such a requirement in countertops and not anything else in the home? And what is natural about granite that has been cut and polished? I don't think you would really want "natural" granite for a countertop that has not been altered and processed by man.

It is strictly a matter of opinion. I prefer natural over fake in many things: wood deck instead of composite (which looks fake and plastic) and wood privacy fence over vinyl (again looks fake and plastic). I like slate or stone flooring instead of carpet, laminate or vinyl.

And, back to the topic of this thread, I don't like the look of quartz. Even when cut and polished, granite is still stone and quartz looks fake and plastic in my opinion.

Your likes and dislikes may be different. You may prefer vinyl fence, laminate flooring, AstroTurf instead of grass and Formica or Quartz. That is why it is so nice to have different choices available, because we all have different likes and dislikes.
