If you have a pool pump that uses a lot of electricity from what I've heard. I would call and ask info about electric billing for the address for previous months to see if the previous tenants bills were also that high. If you have a pool heater running that would explain some too. Otherwise a neighbor may be stealing it, especially if it's a townhouse or the community may be running something on your dime. I would ask my neighbors what their bills are and if they have any idea why yours would be so high if their numbers don't match yours.
I didn't see it on the bill. Is it possible they estimated the usage without reading the meter? Is this a single family home or a apartment\condo building? When my mom moved to her condo her gas bill was very high. I did some simple investigating, 5 minutes later I determined her unit was hooked up to the wrong meter. Utility told me impossible, I made them come and look and sure enough I was correct.
Oh hell our electric bill in the winter is $300 a month. That's even using a pellet stove in the finished basement and a propane fireplace in the living room. And we cook with propane.
When it's -20 the ebb has to be on in order to keep the house and far rooms warm..
I cringe at most ppl electric bill... Our house, electric is around $40/month.... Gas, about 250$ for whole year... So $20/month... We cook everyday, landscape lighting 5 hours day.... Clothes dryer... Computer on 24/7 Etc and we live in a moderate cold climate - central PA

I'm also in the pool pump camp. I know that when ours gets turned on in the summer, it has a very noticeable impact on the bill. Not all pumps are the same either, horsepower and whether it's wired 110 or 220 make a difference.
1) pool
2) hot water heater
3) dryer (were you doing a lot of washing when you first arrived)
