The Raid Fly traps work well. On our second one as the first was full but it continued to work but it was so gross. But boy howdy do they STINK. Put them down wind and for goodness sake only outside! I read reviews on amazon where people tried putting them inside. GAG!
Do they stink from the stuff that attracts the flies or do they start to stink once the flies have been attracted and are rotting? Yuck...either way...
Have your dog take a crap in the corner of the yard away far enough away that you cannot smell it.........LOL

They DO stink something awful...the carcass and dog crap references are not far off (dog do may even be a more pleasant odor). We tried one of these a couple years ago and the smell was just too awful (the wind does blow, ya know). The next year, our next door neighbor hung one up and the smell wafted our way. Thankfully, they agreed and got rid of it as soon as we mentioned the stench was bothering us. Then again, our lots are only about 6500 square feet. So gross.
The priority should be: find the cause. OP posted it a month ago, do I guess the party is over. Not sure how it went, though. Was he able to contain the flies?
BTW: I noticed that a fan can be very helpful against any flying insects - mosquito too.
Insects can’t fly well in strong breezes.
Did you notice that there aren't many flies or mosquito on windy days...?

Stinks almost immediately upon adding the water and hanging it up. We keep ours not that far away but more downwind. Works fantastic and we can even eat outside. We do also keep a box fan out there too.
I agree watching flies crawl over the dead carcasses is truly gross!

Which is one of several reasons I pick a house on a windier hillside instead of buried in a densely vegetated hollow...in summer when I'm out in the yard the bugs are a lot less noticeable because of the wind.
i complained to my wife because i didnt know what that was and she said its to keep flies from food. a problem i havent noticed us having at all but hey she saw it at a friends house and needs to have everything.
right now, we are doing pretty good bugwise. if i notice horsefiles this will probably be my next purchase:
