So I finally got a package stolen from my property - I knew it was a matter of time as I live in the inner city on a more-than-average traffic street.

So it did finally occur, and it really ticks me off.

I do have a cat and I am filling a box with used cat litter.

Question: would you guys fear retribution from crazy people if you put boxes out for thieves filled with waste?

It was a $40 item. I'll swallow that loss. Had it been $400, that would have hurt.

Going forward though - and I do most of my buying via eBay - I'll seek out signature confirmation with as much as possible.

Most services also offer pickup at Walgreens, cvs, etc. OP have you considered getting a Ring or other video doorbell?

The only thing holding me back from getting my security system is my smart phone. It's "old" (by phone standards) but I don't want to get rid of it as it does what I need it to do for the moment.

In many locations, it doesn't matter if you have video of the thieves. The police don't want to know about it and won't do anything or make any arrests.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was some retribution from the thieves if you set out something nasty for them to steal. They aren't nice people to begin with.

I have a Ring doorbell. It is amazing that the delivery people can get in, put down the package, and back away without ever setting off the Ring doorbell. I have recalibrated the doorbell several times, but unless someone stays put for more than 2 seconds, the doorbell doesn't register the presence.

I have special instructions on all packages "Ring doorbell when delivering". No one ever does. Not Amazon, not FedEx, not UPS. I don't routinely use my front door. Sometimes packages stay there for days.

I don't even have sign asking them to, and most of the time, they ring the doorbell. I always check my package delivery status so that I KNOW when it is coming. Why would you not?

Because I have a life and I don't sit around watching my phone.

Don't bother it's a waste of your money. USPS/FedEX/UPS don't bother with that, unless the package
is $$$$$$$$$.

Your money would be better spent on a PO BOX. Depending on locations they cost around $10 a month.
