We are buying a home that has quartz countertops in the kitchen. The countertops are the typical "U" shaped design. On one leg of the U there is a seating area with a free standing stove/oven built into the countertop.

We want to relocate the unit. How would a countertop contractor make a repair for the hole? Can they go back to the closest seam, cut out the section and seam in a new piece?

For the hole left by the oven, we are thinking some kind of sliding drawer that will hide a trash can.

It’s possible…

But, you have to know what quartz. Manufacturer/color. All man-made quartz has proprietary formulas, and they maynot be compatible with each other. And depending on age you could have some color disparity- but that may be able to be addressed with sanding and polishing.

Good luck!

Seriously doubt you would be able to match existing material and seam it in a manner that would not be quite visible. I would start over with new quartz personally.

Is the location someplace handy enough to consider a wood chopping block if an exact match can't be found?

A chopping block may work.

Why would you even consider a cutting board/chopping block!? It’s about as far from the sink as you could possibly get!

As I previously mentioned- have a couple of countertop contractors come out and see. You might even be able to look at the underside of the counter in several places and see if there’s any markings that may hint to manufacturer or color (which could lead you to a manufacturer). Then you can narrow down your search for a vendor.

If the material is still a available, it should be a fairly straightforward repair/replacement. Depending on the color and pattern, good installers know how to “hide” seams.
