DH does most of the day-to-day housework. He's complaining that there "must be something better than Windex" for cleaning glass (windows, mirrors, glass table tops, etc.)
Is he right?
(Mods - please move if I've put this on the wrong board. )
A 50/50 mix of white vinegar and tap water works well and I use old newspapers as a cleaning rag. Spray glass with vinegar water mix, wait 30 seconds, then wipe starting at the top of the window, and working down to the bottom. Polish when window is dry, using a second newspaper.
I used to use Method and found it worked fine, but the other day I needed to clean those tiresome little panes that are set into French doors, and I wasn't sure I wanted to spray glass cleaner all over the wood, so I went to a couple of sites and found a recipe for a homemade glass cleaner that I really like. It works on varnished wood as well:
Homemade Glass Cleaner
1 cup water (some recipes say 2 cups)
1/4 cup white vinegar
3 drops Dawn dish soap (some recipes say 1/2 teaspoon)
You can add a couple of drops of essential oil if you like, but I don't mind the slight vinegar smell. I use this for glass, routine countertop cleaning, my wooden dining table, etc. I wouldn't use it on fine furniture or antiques or anything, but for our casual life, it's great and works as well on glass as anything I've tried.

I've had a terrible time getting my sliding glass doors not streaky. I finally washed the glass with soap and water, rinsed it with the hose and used a squiggy. When the sun finally hit those doors, they were almost perfect. I really hate doing windows.

They do, but at least for my local paper the newsprint seems to have changed and it's not the good glass cleaner it used to be.
