This is a yard sale find I bought for the cart itself but have never figured out what the use of the back end could be.
The metal tubes are bottomless so not for pencils or the like.
Any ideas?

You got it! In the meantime, I remembered to use Goggle Images
Sure seems to me a closed bottom would be more useful, though.

Not from a health standpoint- don’t want the bottoms collecting hair, dander, and other “stuff” possibly transiting from one person to another.

A printer or other device could be put on top and cords could run through the tubes. That way the cart could be right against a wall without the cords hanging off the back edge to get in the way.

I guess I’d look at carts on Amazon to see if there is a match with a description.
