I’m wondering about all the shows that are putting in huge telescoping patio doors, so they can “bring the outdoors in”. Do people really do this? I’d be afraid the house would be full of bugs and birds, and other critters.
My inlaws have this. Their doors open onto the lanai and pool, which is screened, so most things are kept out.
I wish we had them. I would love it in the cool months.
We bought our house 15 years ago, kids were in grade school at the time. House met most of our main priorities but definitely needed some updating.
On day 2 of ownership, I ripped the pink toilet out of the master bathroom and replaced it with a bone colored Toto Drake. Not going to put up with a pink throne.
The rest of our improvements are not as consequential as the commode.
One of the most unusual but fantastic ideas was one I saw in a magazine.
A country home had sliding doors in the bedroom that opened onto a covered porch. The bed was on a sliding platform that could roll out onto the porch. AH!!! there's just something about sleeping outside.

I have a 16 foot screen that covers the hole in my wall, perfectly. Bugs aren't really an issue here. (We have 3 flies in town. They work 8-hour shifts, so, it works out.)
Actually, I saw a mosquito a few months ago.
Haven't had a bird fly in, but have had a wayward butterfly from the passion fruit cruise around the great room. Then, they flew back to the passion fruit flowers. Nectar, she's an evil temptress.
I have owned a total of 10 properties with some houses and some condos. One house was built new. Completely remodeled 6 of them. We did much of the work ourselves only hiring a few items.
I’m hoping for a show without an “open concept kitchen”. I’d watch that. We could start a drinking game with the constant regurgitated same phrases in every show.
Price point.
Open concept.

We bought a new build (not custom) in spring of 2022.
Immediately installed a whole house generator.
Summer of 2023: upgraded builder grade bathtub and toilet to a larger tub w/tile surround & chair height toilet. Finished the (unfinished) basement.
Spring 2024: intend to install a back patio.
2025:intend to pave our gravel driveway.
2026: intend to switch out wooden rails/spindles on back deck to aluminum/metal railings/spindles.
Hey, I might be on House Hunters - will let you know! It should be interesting.
Oh, how fun!
