I like having land lines for emergencies and I still need one for my business line/fax. And yeah it is almost all sales/garbage calls hence the nasty message on my home line and the polite blow off on my business line, lol. Doesn't bother me though the ringers are kept down and I screen all my calls... call or land line.
Barking Spider, I was going to town tomorrow, but had to make a run for some faucet parts today. I stopped by my neighborhood STAPLES store and talked to the manager and explained the whole situation with Uniden and that the phone was only 5 weeks old. He stated that the return policy was 14 days but they stretch it a bit sometimes. He gave me a new phone with no problems...... I took the insurance for 2 years no questions asked return for $8....figure it's worth it.
Gotta love STAPLES......

Nice to hear Staples let you replace it. Myself, I've had the best luck with Panasonic phones. In any case, 14 days is a pretty short return time these days. Lowes and Home Depot do 90 days, and Costco has extended policies for many products.
Bones, I'm like you. I worked at a job where I could be called in to work during a storm and needed a phone to work if the power went out. I went to the Dollar Store and paid a whole $8 for a corded phone that was stuck back and not even plugged in unless the power went out. Plug was easy to get to. Only needed it a couple times, including once out power was out for 4 days.
Vtech and Uniden are about the worst phones you can buy. I'd never touch them. I've found the best ones or at least the one's I've bought for years are Panasonic or Sieman.
Staples may be good but Walmart is easy too. Keep the package just in case something goes wrong. Just tell them the phone quit working. They scan the UPC on the back and either let you get another phone or you get a refund, either cash or a gift card. I've done it. Not with a phone but a small CD player I had for 3 months before it quit.
I'm very happy with Panasonic cordless. We have quite frequent power outages but a little cheapie plug-in 'phone I bought from KMart sits ready to be plugged in when necessary. It's of course the lowest of low-tech but it at least keeps me in the communication arena!
I may be one of the few remaining humans on the planet who doesn't have a cellphone but I can tell you that when we have power outages here it's virtually impossible to reach anyone who has a cellphone because all the circuits get completely jammed up and overloaded. Cheers!
I have an AT&T model 4200 Cordless phone,I love it!!!!! (Its one that came out in 1984) -- The range is excellent!!!!!! (46Mhz)
I also just got a 1.7Mhz phone a couple weeks ago as I have always wanted to have one of the FIRST CORDLESS PHONES ever made! (Late 70s) -- Im waiting to have a new rechargable battery installed in the handset........ (1 has been ordered)
Those are said to have THE BEST range of all!!!!!!
Those and the 46Mhz phones ARE THE ONLY GOOD ONES EVER MADE.. The rest are garbage and not as good..... (Range not as good, etc)
I have heard there are 27Mhz phones also but I havent ever seen any of those! (But I havent l00ked either so)
