I have an old home and the previous owners had security tape around the window panes. We have replaced the antiquated system and it is time to remove the tape but the tape has been there for at least 50 years and likes its spot, if you know what I mean!

Here's my problem... the window panes are original and have the imperfect glass (which I love!) and a razor scraper frightens me because of teh variations in the glass and the fear of scratching the glass.

I have not tried Goof Off yet and did not know if that will tear up the old glass either.

Has anyone else used Goof Off on old glass or used a razor?

If any of you have some advice, please let me know! Thank you!

I would try a hair drier or heat gun to warm adhesive. If this works goof off will probably work on residue. WD40 is also a good solvent spray tape let it sit before applying heat. Good luck.

Ok, here's an update.

That stuff wanted to stay put, that's for sure! I rubbed it with the WD-40 and let it sit for a little bit then I lightly scraped it off. It came off easily, until I got the the mullions where the WIRES were put under the silver tape. I pulled the wire, not even thinking it was attached to the mullion above and OFF peels the paint!!

There has got to be 7-8 coats of paint on these mullions so the wire left a deep indention.. Oh well, maybe putty will do well to fill it.

I used my favorite glass cleaner, called "glass cleaner" and it looks great, with the exception of the paint issue

Now I have a chance to let you know about another one of my favorite products; Donald Durham Company -- Makers of Durham's Rock Hard Water Putty (tm). It is great for repairing wood. Mixed with water you can make it any consistancy you wish. Sands easily and paintable.

Is your check in the mail?

That's what I was coming in to suggest.

I always use it to remove the price labels on the covers of DVD's and CD's I'm giving as gifts and it's really useful at removing the label without messing with the packaging.
