I would never use a plastic pad. I'm also having a new condenser installed soon and I'm going to have a concrete pad poured right now, before I invite any contractors for bids (they usually go with whatever is cheaper and easier, not necessarily what is best).

My last condenser worked great for more than 20 years. I'm sure that if I had a plastic pad under that one, the plastic would have cracked apart before then.

I do a lot of work on my house, and I have never come across a plastic part that ages well. Plastic always cracks and crumbles after a while. Concrete, masonry, stucco, stones, etc. are wonderful time-tested building materials.

That all being said, most people are used to buying cheap quality things from China these days. So there will be plenty who think plastic is "good enough." OK, if you don't care about quality and longevity.

In terms of air conditioning compressor pads. How much bigger than the compressor "foot print" should they be? and if there are two units next to each other; how much space needed between each unit?
