Anybody have any experience with Whole House Dehumidification Systems? Do they work? About how much do they cost? Best brand? Any other remedies for extremely humid conditions in a basement and rest of house too? TIA

I haven't shopped for a standalone "whole house dehumidifier" but in essence one is really looking at an air conditioner. I'm not sure where you are located, but if the zone doesn't have A/C, you might look at a quality A/C unit that also incorporates a humidistat function and cover both needs.

I ahave seen them and they really do work and much better than air conditioning alone. But in most circumsatnces air condition work well for most purposes. The ones I have seen are used to remove moisture after water damage and they takeout alot.Sorry don't know brands etc.

What exactly are you looking for? Dual or multiple stage A/C system can do quiet well but if you are only looking for say a 13 SEER system with strong humidification then whole house dehumidifier would be the way to go. Most dual stage system drop down to 80% of max capacity to act as a dehumidifier. In most cases that's plenty. However in places like Florida you might need a bit more.

whirlpoole has a basement dehumidifier, that removes 50 pints per day.... and it has a direct drain hose connection, that empties the bucket when full into a sump or floor drain.... this is an alternative to a whole house system, which can cost thousands..where as the product I suggest is hundreds.

We always put them in basements and crawlspaces...and they work well to not only elimante moisture, but also that mildewy smell that accompanies moist conditions.
