Vacuum cleaner keeps clogging when I use it on new carpet (hardwood, refinishing)

This house I bought has brand new carpet and every time I vacuum the floors I get tons of fluff clogging the vacuum cleaner within about 60 seconds, which makes me have to stop what I am doing to clear the clog. It is such a pain; is there anything I can do to the carpets to get around this? Is there some sort of sweeper out there or something that will pull this fluff up, a big giant comb, anything?
Sounds like the carpet quality really. How about using a shop vacuum to see if it will keep shedding then contacting the store;if it does.
This carpet was already here when I bought the house, so there is no comeback there. I am told this is a common problem with cheap new carpet so I was wondering if anyone else had encountered it and what their fixes were.
I plan to eventually rip up the carpet and expose the hardwoods that are underneath in every room but the den; I have seen photos of the floors and they are beautiful, original 50 year old floors. In the den I will have to have hardwoods put in if I want to get rid of the carpet! Personally I strongly dislike carpet and think it is more trouble than it's worth but I knew hardwoods were under 80% of that carpet, so I figured I could live with it until I get around to refinishing the floors underneath.
You can get a small wet/dry shop vac pretty inexpensively and that's what I'd recommend for now as nothing will get clogged up. The vac is also useful to have around in the event of major spills, leaks or minor flooding ... Good luck!
Before my husband and I began building homes, I cleaned new construction homes for other builders.
The cheaper the carpet, the more the fuzz. I went through several vacuums in the first few months of cleanings. That was when my kids were little, and sometimes they were with me at cleanings. Even after vacuuming, they'd play on the floors & come up with all that fuzz on their clothes and in their hair.
When we started our own building company, we knew we would never put that kind of carpet into our homes....and we don't.
You can try a shop vac..it's a good option...but it's tough on the back. I truly love your idea of nixing the carpet altogether and uncovering those wood floors. good luck!
Yeah, its basically just carpet fibers. Just keep vacuuming the rugs and eventually it will stop.
