Hello,

So I am getting ready to get a new refrigerator for our new house. We had a bottom freezer at the old one, and I am debating between getting the same type OR going back to the old style, with the freezer on the side. I was not overly impressed with the bottom freezer.

What are your opinions? Why do you like your bottom freezer OR why do you like the side by side?

Would love to read your opinions.

D

I've had both (sub zero bottom and GE monogram side by side.) My next one will be bottom. I think they are roomier.

I have side-by-side. Seems like the bottom freezers have more room, plus I hate reaching to the bottom of the fridge constantly for stuff in the side-by-side. Bottom freezers have all the stuff at my level.

We've had a side-by-side and really didn't like it. Absolutely no room in the freezer, even though it was a huge unit.

We now have a bottom-freezer model and really like it. Ours is a model where the freezer rolls out, not just where a door opens.

It's an absolute no-brainer for me. We'll never again have a side-by-side.

I like the side by side.
The bottom freezer has its advantages to a point but I don't like all that bending over.

I'd be happy with either one though.

Thought I would like the new side by side, but this next Spring I am going to replace it with a bottom freezer unit and give that damn side-by-side away just to get it out of the house. No room for anything in it. If you are single, or only two of you in the house, I can see where it would work. With a family they are a complete joke for size.

I have a side by side... I like it... only bottom freezer I have ever seen was my grandmother's old refrigerator from back in the day.

I need a new fridge soon too and I really, really want the french door kind with the freezer on the bottom. The side by sides are just too narrow. You can't freeze something on a cookie sheet. And bottom freezers are supposed to be more efficient.

Freezer's on top. You know what I'd REALLY like? A walk-in--maybe with a chest freezer. That seems like it could be big enough for two people to share.

I've been looking at the french door kind too, but I'm not sure what the advantage is, other than they look really cool (no pun intended ... ).

My vote is for the bottom freezer because I've also heard that they're fairly efficient and, for me, I think the higher fridge compartment would be easier to work with. As for the side x side, they're nice in theory, but not so good in real life. When I bought a frozen pizza, I had to stand it upright (where it kept slipping through the rack), because there just wasn't enough room to lay it down.
