We're both 38 and our house is paid for. To be fair, we live in my childhood home which we inherited when my Dad died and Mom bought a house closer to town (paid for in cash.) At the time, we had 9 years left on a 15 year mortgage on our previous home so after we sold it we were able to invest the equity and fully fund the kids' college accounts. Our home is older and needs work here and there which we are paying for in cash as we go along.
I recognize we are extremely fortunate, but my Dad started with nothing, coming from the Appalachia mountains in Eastern Kentucky, where his family was - and remains - dirt poor. He was career enlisted military and with a stay-at-home-wife and 4 kids he was able to manage his money and investments making a comfortable living along the way. His secret was not spending every penny he made and living below his means. The reward was being able to fully retire at age 50, give his kids a leg up in life and having investments earning more in interest alone than my husband grosses in a year. My goal is to follow in his footsteps.
Yep.....mid 40s and early 50s....hubby and I paid it off in January. Yaaaay! As previously posted, you are the one responsible for keeping it up and doing or hiring the repairs and upgrades...but it's ours and we can pretty much do whatever we want to with it. Also, no more mortgage pmts!
I paid off my house in 4 and a half years right before I turned 38, a couple of months ago. I think most people try to get the biggest house for their income. In my case, I purchased a modest house for my income. Having said that it's in one of the top neighborhoods in denver, it's 3500 sqft, and it's at least two-and-a-half to three times the price of the US median home.
I don't own my own home yet,but know I am thinking about to buy a home.I have contact with some brokers who help me to find a best house with a better location in a reasonable price. So that I can easily manage it.I come to know one source by my friend is - Easy and hassle free home (houses) selling in Connecticut | Buy my home in Connecticut- ,If anybody know other source then let me know .
Thanks in advance.
