Only YOU can determine which pillow satisfies your personal comfort preferences.
Very true - what comprises a comfortable pillow is very subjective. I do not like down pillows and I've tried the contour pillow and didn't care for that either - I like a good quality fiberfill pillow - most comfortable for my picky neck & shoulders.
Really good down pillows (I buy them for my husband) can be $150 on up, so it would be foolish to make that kind of investment and find that you don't care for down pillows.

Since the OP loves her down comforter, I don't think it's a stretch that she'll love down pillows.
Plus, you can always mix pillows and have another type of pillow below the down pillow. Most people I know sleep on two pillows.
My FIL swears by the memory foam pillows (and went and bought some for the guest bed during his stay here). My husband and I bought the Holiday Inn pillows from Pacific Pillows last year. We love them. We each got a medium and a firm so we could adjust as needed.

I have a down comforter that I love but I don't like down pillows. The kind of pillow that gives optimum comfort to someone's head, neck and upper back is subjective and has nothing to do with the kind of blanket/comforter they use.
Any ideas for a relatively flat pillow? For some reason I am most comfortable when my head is elevated just an inch or two. Most pillows have way too much loft for me. I can't even imagine using two pillows! I've thought about the contour pillow but the contour looks like it might also raise my head too much off the mattress. Or is that not a problem?
I bought the cheap pillows for years. Ya know, the ones at Wal-mart, Target etc, for 3 bucks a piece. lol. I finally decided to splurge and get good pillows. I bought mine at JcPenney. I waited till they had their buy one, get the second one for .88 cents (I do know this is a marketing gimmick by the way) and got 4 new pillows. All of them are down filled but two have a gel filling as well. OMG. I wont ever buy another walmart pillow again! The pillows were 50 dollars each but I spent a total of 102 bucks due to the sale. They come with pillow covers which is great cuz it keeps the pillow itself clean. Determine what kind of sleeper you are. Hubby and I both sleep on our sides and backs. So I bought two pillows for side sleeper and two pillows for back sleepers. So we can switch them around whenever we adjust to our new position.
Spending a lot of money on pillows is not exactly an exciting purchase but it is well worth it.
