I think about this every time I load the dishwasher. My life is not complete until I get this answer!
Do you put the forks, knives, and spoons facing down or up?
I don't have and never read an owners manual so I don't know if that is even covered in them. Probably doesn't even matter but I think about this when food is dried on or I am putting say something like one of thoes long spoons (the ones with like a 12"-16" handle) and it has cheese from my latest macaroni on it.
Yeah, I put knives down too for safety, and everything else up because it looks like they'd get cleaner with the eating part sticking out of the basket. This is my totally unscientifically proven theory, lol.
My stuff goes UP! However, after I stuck myself with a sharp knife, I decided I would hand wash all sharp knives.
Here's my logic:
1. I am very careful with my good knives and don't want the edges banging on others, so they would never go in a dishwasher.
2. Sharp ends down with any sharp knive can/will nick the plastic coating of the rack, and sooner or later will cause the metal to rust.
Me too, as said above....knives downward, forks & spoons upwards after rinsing off food. I always handwash good knives and dry thoroughly immediately, and never, ever put sterling silver in the dishwasher. You can relax now!!
That's a very good idea about pointing the sharp knives downward... in our dishwasher, everything is always pointing up, even the sharp stuff. I've never been cut either from it. It'll probaby happen one day and then I'll start pointing them down... Interesting question!
