The Astrodome is a monstrosity. The reason it is still the 8th wonder of the world is because the rest of the world wonders why we haven't demolished it. Knock it down and put something else there.

Hasn't been demolished because its chock full of asbestos. Big liability and cleanup costs.

I used to be against tearing it down but it's gotten to the point where I don't really care anymore. It's no less "sad" to see it torn down than to watch it sit there and rot under the shadow of a newer facility that, unlike the Dome, is not obsolete.

And forget, for once, the historic preservation stuff. Every city tears down old stadiums. Yankee Stadium was more historic as a stadium than the Astrodome ever thought about being. It's gone. The new one is just another new stadium that happens to be built near the site of the old one, and sort of looks like the old one.

If somebody actually defies the odds and comes up with a viable plan to reuse it, then great. But it's goofy to spend millions on minimal maintenance just to have it sit there when that money could just as well be used on historic preservation efforts in parts of the city that are actually more than 50 years old.

Many nights I spent in the the Astrodome doing the wave while singing Love Ya Blue.....we had the coolest scoreboard in the NLF in the 70's. I wish we could keep it for college or high school ball.

I agree with this.

If I had to guess; I'd say they are going to opt to tear it down and use that area for the expansion of TMC.
