I agree with you 100%. I don't even consider it as an amusement park.

We have three of Americas best and upscale shopping malls, Galleria, Memorial City, and Katy Mills malls, the best dining and entertainment. Once the new amusement parks get here, Houston will knock Orlando right out the game, and take it's place as the most popular destination spot in the U.S. Plus, Houston is the 4th largest city in the U.S. and Orlando is the 27th largest.
You are crazy if you believe that. Orlando will not lose one bit of sleep over an amusement park in Texas. Walt Disney World is not an amusement park, its a brand. Families don't go just because it has a bunch of rides. They go for the whole Disney experience. Every kid grows up with Disney surrounding them. Most of their princess movies are over 50 years old but just about every little girl worships them.

Earthquest Adventures will be the size of one disney park. Orlando has 7 amusement parks that same size. That doesn't include the 2 Disney water parks, wet and wild, Discovery Cove, Downtown Disney, CityWalk and all the smaller amusement venues spread around town.

And frankly it might be more beneficial for the area if the park didn't grow to Disneyesque levels. The traffic and infrastructure concerns would be significant. A well-run park that's similar in scope and scale as, say, Fiesta Texas would be a very nice addition, IMO. Although, I'm pretty sure that people who live in the area would be very leery of the significant increase in traffic and congestion even with a smaller than Disney park. The 59 widening through that area is well-timed, even if only coincidental.

That or we're all being punk'd. Disney World literally is its own little world. EQ adventures is great, but it won't affect Disney World's tourism.
