Since schools are not a concern, Pearland is a good choice (well the best considering where your husband works).

Pearland's traffic can be atrocious, especially in the center of Pearland proper along 35. 518/288 and the shopping center is no picnic either, but at least you're a straight shot north from fleeing Pearland

Yeah, but they will be working in Pearland, so that isn't an issue (commuting times).

The exact area my husband will be working is right off the Beltway on McHard Road, west of 288. Would Friendswood be too far of a commute considering traffic? What about Alvin? We would like to have a larger lot than we are finding in Pearland. Is there any area in Pearland, other than Shadow Creek Ranch to avoid? Where exactly is the Dump that I have read about on this forum so we stay clear of it?
I appreciate all of your help so very much!

You can live in Pearland, Alvin, Houston (easy access down 288), wherever.

The landfill that is affecting Shadow Creek Ranch I believe is located off FM 521 west of 288 near the Fort Bend/Brazoria line. There is another east of Alvin on Highway 6.

Don't understand what the complaints are about - the landfills were there before people started building subdivisions all over the place.

Don't even consider Friendswood. Traffic nightmare. Alvin isn't so bad, but making it through Pearland on into the job might be long.

Alvin/Manvel is not a bad choice. You don't have to go through Pearland traffic to get to 288/McHard. Highway 6 to 288 to McHard is not bad at all.

Friendswood...yeah...if you love your car, and you love sitting in it, then knock yourself out. It's pretty built-up too.

Thank you so much for all your advice. We have been looking online at har.com in Alvin and Pearland rather than Friendswood. It is so hard when you do not know an area to try to tell a relocation person where you might even want to look. Thanks again!

I have gotten an estimate on auto insurance and it is about 4 times the price where we live now Indianapolis, IN. Does anyone have an opinions on that?

I am sure from what I have read in the forum that homeowner's insurance is more (we pay $370 a year here) for a $250,000 coverage.

Are there only trees of any maturity north of Houston? We love trees!

I know from the forum that property taxes are at least double what we pay here.

We have a choice as whether to move to Houston or stay here but it would be a good career move for my husband but do not want to choose Houston if it would be much more expensive to live there than here in Indy.

Thanks for any help to my questions! I have been reading the forum about Sienna Plantation, is this a safe area? Would it be a decent commute for us to Hwy 288 and Beltway 8?
Lot's of great areas in 288, south of beltway 8.

What about Shadow Creek Ranch? Is it really that bad to live in and is it affecting the property values in there due to the landfill? We love the looks of the Lakes at CountryPlace in Pearland but not many houses to choose from on the golf course. What does anyone know about this subdivison? Any other golf course subdivisions in Pearland?
