Living up in Boston and being surrounded by Dunkin Donuts has made me miss Shipley's so much more. Never liked Krispy Kreme because it is way, way too sweet. Dunkin Donuts is also too sweet for me and the donut itself doesn't compare to have light and airy Shipley's is.

I love my Houston, I love my Texas. But, unfortunately, this is too true...Shipley's is only as good as it's first 10 minutes out of the fryer...after that, it's dry, crusty sugar bread. I'll always be partial to KK.

I think each has some good options. Can't beat KK glazed, love Shipley's chocolate icing w/nuts and sugared, and recall liking DD bavarian creme.

In all honesty, whenever I get take-out in this city, only ~15% of the time is it at a non-Houston based restaurant. On the other hand, in Atlanta, half the time I ate out was at a chain.

I love Krispy Kreme donuts. But Shipley's is big business here and other parts of Texas. I know Waco use to have Krispy Kreme as well and shortly went out of business. Shipley's is still there though. Luckily when I go back home in East Texas, the grocery stores still carry KK donuts so I always make sure to grab a couple and take back to Houston with me.

But for people in Houston who want Krispy Kreme like donuts it's a place call Golden Donuts in Spring Branch. The best donuts I've had in Houston bare none. I think it's on 2929 Bingle Road. A thousand times better then Shipley's. If you like sweet soft donuts that is.
