For those of you that didn't know already, Marvin Zindler has Pancreatic Cancer. Today, Robert Finger of Fingers Furniture (the guy that says "at your Fingers") died of Pancreatic Cancer.

Mr. Zindler has done so many great things for Houston. He was especially helped out the poor and elderly. For long time Houstonians, you can't forget Marvin and the things he has done for the people of this city. Houston needs more people like him, especially in the media. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

Like others, I grew up watching him on the news. Sad news for everybody, well except the owners of those hole-in-the-wall Korean restaurants who had Slime in the Ice Machine!!

Seriously though, I wish him well.

Marvin Zindler has been a Houston icon for as long as I can remember. He could have retired decades ago with all the money he could ever spend but he truly believed in what he did and felt a calling to help the unfortunate. Newcomers (or strangers) to Houston could never see past his facade (blue glasses, silly white wig and perpetual smile due to the many plastic surgeries) but after getting to know his influence they were amazed. I met Mr. Zindler years ago when I tried to get money back from a health club (they never opened the facility I was paying for). I wrote to Marvin, appeared on his program, and before I could say, "Slime in the ice machine," I received a full refund from the gym. Just my appearance on his show was enough to "influence" the return of my money. I don't know where we will ever find another Marvin Zindler to replace this wonderful icon.

Sorry to hear about Marvin Zindler. I remember first seeing him on channel 13 as a child in the 70s when visiting my grandparents in Houston..and all the years since when still making my 2-3 times per year visit to relatives. Just saw him last month while down visiting and he didn't look like he had changed a bit.

Best of luck to a true one of a kind.

And I didn't know that the Finger Furniture man died..jeez, I remember him too in the commercials. So sad...
