If I had that much to spend, I'd go for West Houston. Maybe the Briar Forest area. Quick jump onto the Katy freeway into town, or the Sam Houston beltway to points north or south.

My husband looked for two years in The Woodlands for a house. He asked his agent to show him homes in Kingwood and guess what? He bought in Kingwood. It is very convenient and we love the Greenbelt trails. Another plus for Kingwood is that it provides Metro bus service direct to downtown! My kids attend the school nearby and it is safe to ride a bicycle to school. (Previously we paid private school tuition) My husband used to have an office downtown but has now rented office space in Kingwood.

Looked at both. To me, Kingwood was more relaxing and an easier drive to downtown. My home is surrounded by a 400 acre nature preserve, around the corner from over 100 miles of greenbelt trails, and is a 5 minute drive to Kingwood Town Center.

Humble is only a 10 minute drive from Kingwood so having to drive to Humble for stuff is not that big a deal. I have lived in Kingwood for years and we only drive down to Houston maybe once a month to do something. Also it is only 35 minute drive to The Woodlands if you want to shop or eat over there which we do a couple times a year.

Kingwood no doubt. Unless you like paying extra taxes for nothing.

Kingwood has metro bus service??? Hmmm, could you get by with just one car in Kingwood? My husband has a car for work, but I choose to not own one because I prefer to walk, bike or take the bus. But, where I currently live, it is very convenient. I just heard on another thread about how impossible it would be to live in houston without a car. I have never actually lived in suburbia, so I know it would be a big transition, but I really like the idea of all the bike and walking trails in Kingwood. I want my kids to be able to walk or bike to school since they have always done that even up here in the north with sub zero temps.

I love public trans, so if Kingwood has that option, I think it's great!

That is doable in Kingwood, how old are your kids and what is your price range for a house?
