Fans help to circulate the air around the house. It is more comfortable to have fans than just having the A/C running. I have one in the kitchen too that helps tremendously.

I'm running the A/C mainly to lower the humidity. If we didn't have such high humidity, I would be comfortable with just having the fans running (no a/c), like the folks in California.

My home is mostly tile flooring. This is another plus to keep the home cool.
I'm older too and still very hot natured. I wish I wasn't, HATE being hot.

Yep, Zhang Fei is absolutely correct. It's not the heat, it's the lack of water that will kill ya'. People in Africa seems to know about this .

I grew up in Friendswood and my family home was built in 1860.This was many years before it was Friendswood. The family owned two hundred acres and the original home was destroyed by the 1900 hurricane. The home was rebuilt and is still on my homesite which I use for storage. The windows are huge and if they are all opened it stays rather cool.Anyway I lived in it as a kid with no a/c or fans.I had to work out doors farming ,roofing houses all summer long . The coolest I ever got was coming home and jumping in the pond and sitting in the living room. You did not have a/c at the time and guess what no one lived in Texas. My father always said a/c ruined the state.
