I have noticed the trains blow their horns day and night in the last couple of days and its crazy loud, especially during the night. Is this normal seasonal things? I have just purchased my 250k house in the area and it upset me.

Funny because a train runs right along highway 90 in Sugar Land and it never blows the horn. (from Grand Parkway to I-59)
I guess there's not enough rich people where you live now to stop them from blowing their horn.

I don't know about your specific area but we hear train horns here in Pearland as well (and we are at least a mile from the tracks). Some nights it's worse than others - I think the wind seems to carry the noise. When we first moved here I noticed them, and the planes in and out of Hobby but now I hardly ever notice. I did hear that Pearland were making improvements to establish a quiet zone, maybe you could check if your area is doing anything similar.

I live by the Sugar Land airport and used to work in Stafford.
so I drove everyday on that section of 90, saw the train many many times and there's even signs that say that trains don't blow their horn.

That's the only place where I've ever seen that, and I wonder what's so special about that area.

BTW, the less trees you have, the farther you can hear the train.
In San Antonio, I lived 3 miles away from the train tracks, but there were no trees, so I could still hear it.

I am going to write to the local congressman for this matter... I noticed there are train tracks by the Old Town Spring, but rarely hear the horn blown until this week... I used to live in Brooklyn by the overpass subway lines and dealt with the noise all the time during college, guess I am spoiled in the big Texas.

i used to live a block away from train tracks inside the loop....and it was common for them to blow their horn at 2-3am...it would wake me up, but that was something that i dealt with and got used to....i think train tracks should be something to think about when house shopping.....even though there may be signs or noise ordinance in place, if a car is trying to cross the tracks, the train WILL blow their horn.

You can write your congressman if you'd like, but train operators have pretty high authority on when/where they blow the horns (which crossings, etc). They aren't blowing them to keep you up at night, they blow them to warn traffic at a crossing. If there had been low traffic at some crossing and they didn't need to blow them lately, then all of a sudden there has happened to be more traffic, you'll get more horns.

Good luck, but what you are doing is kind of like moving in next to an airport then complaining about the sounds of jets. The train crossing were there before you were.

they are in the process of establishing a quiet zone for Westbury (due to the tracks following 90). it is an actual court/legal process. this one has been pending for nearly a year but i'm told we are eventually supposed to get it. if you have a civic association/HOA get them going

if you hear the horns blowing in a quiet zone you can actually report it. train operators don't have that much authority (short of trying to get some lunatic to clear the track)

as I mentioned, the horns start to blow more frequent in this week, just try to figure out what causes this...

more trains or more blowing of the horns generally causes the noise
