I used to seem them running along the wires in Tanglewood.

We have too many coyotes and hawks down near the bayou to have them out Memorial way. However, I have found mice in pool during the worst of the drought.

How big are these rats? I have only seen some rats leaving a neighbor's garage before and that pretty much freaked me out to the point that I had my husband put out some of those catch and release traps between our home and his. But never, ever, ever saw one in the house. If I did, I don't think I could go back to the house until my husband caught them and got rid of them and then disinfected the entire house top to bottom. Then I would get OCD about sealing the house with steel wool and chicken wire. I'm thinking rats are more of a southern city issue???

I was going to say....not to worry....that even the rats know to avoid Eastwood, but, I decided that wouldn't be appropriate.

Southern city issue? Doesn't NYC and LA have a rat problem as well? I think it's more of an urban density issue.

Rats were an inner loop issue when I lived there. If you left your door open too long they'd come inside by pairs or threes. I had to chase them out with a broom more than once. They were standard size, maybe 4 inches long with a big earthworm-like tail.

Haven't seen rats on the fringe of SE Houston but there are lots of baby possums every Spring, and lots of other smaller animals. SW Houston had more field mice. College Station had rats.

My kids found a headless dead rat near the street in front of our house this week. Meyerland area. Eeewwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.

But I guess a dead rat is better than a live one... I suppose since it was headless there is some form of predator around. Cats, probably.
