I really am wondering if this is a joke thread. With all due respect, Houston quite obviously lies in a subtropical coastal plain. No, there are no mountains within 3-4 hours drive time, though you can get to beautiful snowy mountain resorts in New Mexico (Santa Fe, Ruidoso) in 12-14 hours, less if you fly.

You CAN get to the Hill Country in a relatively short time, but don't expect snow.

If it's just the views you're interested in, you don't have to go all the way up to northern NM. You can get some wonderful views of the snowy mountains and day trips in Cloudcroft, Carlsbad, and Ruidoso in New Mexico. They're all in the southeastern portion of NM.

Good luck, and hope you have a nice vacation.

We spend almost every Christmas at this place, Devils Thumb Ranch. Quick flight into Denver and about 1 hour drive depending on the snow. Is a huge private proprety with easy access to any possible fun activities, ski, cross country ski, tubing, you name it. Is a bit pricey but the best experience ever. Very very kids friendly. My kids love it there.

Not specifically, but that area is excellent (albeit probably expensive). Look into Breckinridge/Vail/Keystone/A-Basin as well. They're connected by free shuttle. I believe Breckinridge is the poster child because of its quaint little town while Keystone has some of the only slopes lit at night IIRC.

This will "get lost on post #20"
But your best bet is the Ozarks in Arkansas... about 8 drive from here.
Little Rock also has some nice hills and is a nice small city.

But NW Arkansas has some great hills,
I drove from Little Rock to Branson through Harrison, AR last month and I was tired of that roller coaster.

You can also try Kerrville, TX 1 hour NW of San Antonio and pray that it will snow.
