The land was officially purchased in February. Looks like they're not just talking. Ready or not, Aldi is coming to Houston:
Quote:
A discount grocery store chain is moving forward with plans for its first Houston-area store near the Oak Park Trails subdivision, as neighborhood leaders plan to consult with homeowners March 4 about taking opposition to the project "to a different level."

The German retailer has purchased 2.5 acres on Mason Road at Oak Park Trail, one of two major entrances to the neighborhood of about 1,057 homes.

The Oak Park Trails Homeowners Association, which has staged two rallies against the project already, says the location is a poor fit for the neighborhood, and will invite traffic and strangers.

I hope they build it, this stranger will shop there.

Leaving Aldi behind is one of the things I will miss when our family relocates to Houston.

I understand the code speak.

Where I live now is a bedroom community by a big Air Force base and University. The buses from the city we are near don't come to this town, because 'strangers might shop there.'

At least the neighbors shouldn't have to worry about shopping carts all over the place.

Default I don't think you care about that...

Um, so you are implying non-whites can't afford anything else but to shop at a discount store? Aldi isn't catering to the poor, Aldi is catering to those who like to save money.
And if wal-mart maintained their stores better, and if they didn't always turn them into ghetto wal-marts,we wouldn't have this discussion.

Today's couponers (even a Kardashian?) take saving seriously

But the changing face of the coupon user may surprise you. Households with incomes of $100,000 or more are twice as likely to coupon as those who earn less than $35,000.

Speaks for itself.

Speaks for itself.
Oildog is not implying that, Oildog is saying the people up in arms about this out in Katy clearly percieve that is the case, and it appears all this other is a smoke-screen and code to cover the ugly truth that they think, gasp, it will bring poor brown people into their corner of the world. Just calling them out for it.

Maybe it's you who does "clearly perceive" this, since you seem to insist that it must be true.

Just look at the wal-marts. They are almost all ghetto. Can't blame people for thinking it's gonna turn into some ghetto store. Don't be prejudiced. Everybody shops there, Modster...
