I asked my significant other if I was off, and she said we run it almost everyday in November and March and around half the time during December-February. This house usually is much warmer inside than out. It is well-insulated so perhaps it traps the heat in from cooking, etc.?

If you have a place to stay here, yes, it may be a good idea to come here for interviews. Be patient though, I had to take a position that was a hours drive from my house just to get my foot in the door. It was worth it, however, because now I have experience. Once you have that "one year" in, getting a job is much easier.

I still think you should find a job first. You'll never know how long will it take and you might run out of your friends' welcome before landing a job. You can still stay in MN but borrow your friend's address to put it on your resume. You'll have to pay for the interview expenses.

Once you have a job, every thing else will be much easier to deal with.

I was thinking i could apply as one or work as a nurse assistant until i pass my exam or get a job. It also seems like people are afraid of hiring out-of-state applicants because they worry they won't be able to make it to the interview...anyways, don't you guys think it would be easier to move first and then find a job?
(by the way i have a friend down there who's willing to let me stay with her until i settle)

Well, I don't know if I'd call it well-insulated if you're having to run the AC that often. Warm air is being trapped, but you're losing cool air. You might want to consider investing in an air circulator.

Even this past winter, which was unusually warm, I did quite a bit of switching back and forth from the cool/heat, I admit, but I was still running the heat on more nights than the cool air was running during the day.

On a usual winter month in Houston, I guarantee that I could turn the AC on, leave the thermostat on 70, and the thing won't budge for days, if not weeks.

Try opening a window. Much more energy efficient than running a/c in the winter.

And assuming that you don't have a problem with sinus or allergies.

Flies? Ever heard of screens?

Shouldn't be many sinus or allergies in winter.

Wrong. My allergies go almost all year long here in Houston because there is always pollen. It's less in the winter, but it does not go away.
