I almost couldn't believe it when I read it this morning:
Correspondents Select Some of Their Favorite Roads - NYTimes.com

I mean, yeah I guess the Sam Houston statue symbolizes Texas' bigger than thou mentality but there are other much more scenic/interesting drives in our great state. Ranch Road 337 to Leakey in the Hill Country, Highway 385 through Big Bend national park to name just a couple. Oh well.

My guess is the person (Manny Fernadez) writing this story was high at the time, we really need to tighten up on the DWI's around here.

Yeah, but I mean, there aren't many other freeways in the state where you get towering pine trees and rolling hills like 45 North (from The Woodlands on north). It's not an ugly section of freeway, but there are more scenic roadways in the state.

I-45 makes it and the Blue Ridge Parkway doesn't?

These people really ought to get out more.

Clearly skipped all that 45 between downtown and the Sam Houston statue. The abandoned Landmark Chevy dealership, the endless proliferation of used car lots, the strip shops, surrounded by a towering forest of billboards.

I read the article and my response is "really ??????" @heightslan, I would think any freeway you look at in the state, you would have to look at it outside of a major city's city limits. For my two cents, I enjoy highway 71 more than 45 north.

I'm pretty sure that I-45 encompasses hundreds of other miles in Texas outside of the Houston area.

This excerpt was pretty pitiful, though. It wasn't even about the road but rather what's possibly the ugliest statue known to man.

I love driving I-45 between Willis and Madisonville. The rest not so much.
