IAH will soon offer flights to Turkey | Newswatch | a Chron.com blog

There’s word that Bush Intercontinental Airport will welcome another foreign airline, weeks after city approval of a controversial Hobby Airport expansion.

KTRK-Channel 13 says Turkish Airlines will offer direct flights from Houston to Istanbul, starting in April 2013. The flights will reportedly be four times a week: Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays...........
As others have stated, looks like others are already filling United's void. It wasn't the end of the World after all.

Wait what? I thought IAH and the city were doomed if Hobby became an international airport.

Great news! The Houston>Istanbul flight makes A LOT more sense than the United Houston to Auckland flight anyway!

Obviously Turkish Air didn't do their homework and haven't heard about the Hobby Southwest thing. No doubt they will cancel this service as soon as they do.

I don't know anything about them,
except that they are one of the sponsors of my favorite soccer team, so I bet they are good

Which Airlines Have the Best Safety Record?
The top eight airlines in the United States (those having more than 2 million flights per year) all have good safety records. Their rank, based on the number of fatal events per million miles traveled, is as follows:
Southwest Airlines 0.00 (no fatalities in its history)
Delta Airlines 0.17
Northwest Airlines 0.21
Continental Airlines 0.24
US Air 0.28
United Airlines 0.31
Alaska Airlines 0.33
American Airlines 0.40
This is an average of 0.24 fatal events per million flights.
How does that compare to the airlines of other countries? The sixteen airlines based in other countries with flights exceeding 2 million per year average 1.10 fatal events per million flights, or more than four times worse than the U.S. average. The top 5 safest foreign airlines are:
British Airlines 0.17
SAS 0.19
Lufthansa 0.22
All Nippon Airlines 0.22
Air France 0.72 (not including the 6/1/09 crash)
The foreign airlines with the worst fatality records are:
Turkish Airlines 3.60

Indian Airlines 3.53
Aeromexico 1.76
Japan Airlines 1.36
SwissAir 1.20

What is the methodology of the site?

Remember that Turkish Airlines is a Star Alliance partner with United.

Turkish Airlines like United Airlines is also part of the Star Alliance network, so they are probably flying to Houston in order to tap into United's US Domestic/Latin American network in addition to serving any Houston-Europe/Middle East traffic.
