I'll be passing through Houston from New Mexico on my way to Louisiana next week. I have a show on YouTube that is kind of a third rate version of Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives where I review burgers joints. I was hoping to get some recommendations from locals for a casual place to grab a great burger. Any ideas?

Lankford Grocery
Smash Burger
Five Guys

All pretty good.

But, the best hamburger is the one you make on your own grill.

If you are heading down I-10, there are several places I'd recommend.

Christian's Tailgate is at the NE corner of I-10 and Washington Ave, right inside loop 610. They are consistantly in the top 5 places in Houston. I;ve been there 4 or 5 times and it is always great. Christian's Tailgate Sports Bar & Grill - Houston, Texas in Midtown, Heights and Washington - Voted Best burger in Houston by Houston Press 2004 and 2005

Another place people recommend, but I've never been there, is Hubcap Grille. They are a bit further in town, but still on your way. I need to go there soon. They are also on the top burger lists. Houston's Best Hamburger - Hubcap Grill

For a gourmet burger, there is The Burger Guys. Not your usual burgers, but they are great if you like unusual. My son, who is a somewhat food critic, LOL, said their Buffalo burger was the best burger he's ever had. Their Fries are great, and they have real sugar sodas and home made specialty flavor ice cream shakes. They are a few miles out of the main city on the west side, but not too far out of your way. There are many others to try in Houston. You could spend a week hitting all the top burger places!

Actually, The Counter has a location on Washington Ave also. I almost went there Sunday, they had a BFD - free Burger For Dad promo on Father's Day. The Counter : Custom Built Burgers : Houston

I just noticed they are a chain, I was hoping there were a small operation.

only two places you should try are Christian's Tailgate - get the blue cheese burger!

and Bubba's Texas Burger Shack...it is in a trailer under the interstate..enough said!http://www.bubbastexasburgershack.com/

I would definetely try to go here if you can...one of best burgers I've ever had and was the cover burger for Texas Monthly Magazine when they did their issue couple years ago on best burgers in Texas. Alamo Springs Cafe!

Also, if you are coming through Austin stop at Hutt's Burgers.http://www.hutsfrankandangies.com/

And if going to Louisiana you are doing yourself a disservice if you don't go to Judice Inn in Lafayette.
