How much money do you need to make in order to survive in Houston?

How much do you need to make in order to live comfortably?

Would you need to bring home at least 500$ a week?

I'm trying to get an idea of whats the col is like.

I'm comming from CT where the col is much more expensive.

I was planning on renting a room first.

Any advice and information will be appreciated

I have a young guy in my family who only works p/t (by choice). Lives on a shoestring - has no money after paying bills to do anything, buy anything. go anywhere and occasionally skips meals (so very thin) and doesn't ask or expect any public assistance. He seems happy as a clam........although the rest of his family isn't happy about it. They worry much more about his lack of things than he does.

i'd say if you're netting $500/week and have a paid for car already, you could live OK. I'd imagine a $800/month 1 bedroom/studio/garage apt, $100/mo car insurance, maybe $100/mo gas money, $200 groceries, $200 utilities/TV/internet, $200 spending money, saving $400/mo for other stuff, emergencies.

Its very doable as long as you budget well.

yeah you'd struggle pretty good unless you feel into some ideal situation - living in a decent place with a tolerable roommate splitting rent at $400 something a person. I did that when I was younger

you could do it. you could live off even less but I'm not the kind to willingly go hungry

Being able to go the movies, eat out some nights and having spending money for clubs. Being able to buy fun stuff like laptops, dvds, mp3s players, buy some decent clothes and still have money left over to fix and tune cars.
