I am tired of the cold Chicago winters and want to relocate to Houston. I heard the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, which is associated with the University of Texas is a very good Cancer care center. On average what is the weather like in Dec and Jan. How is public transp and privated subsidized medical transp for disable? Do you have a bus or rail line that runs all night long 24/7? I' m interested in a diverse neighborhood maybe near a college. There are many things I like about Chicago but it is too cold for these bones. Is there a homeless population near the Center? Eggs are $1.99> here and milk can be $3> per gallon. Is there a rail/train line to Austin? Is Houston known for Tex-Mex food. I'm interested in Handcrafted goods and the theater. Who has the best day and night tour of the city?

M.D. Anderson I understand is one of the best cancer centers in the country. Weather in Dec/Jan since I've been here have been delightful (not too cold, but definitely not hot). The summers here can be unbearable

The public transportation here is the PITS. Nothing like Chicago! I'm not sure what the arrangments are for seniors, but I can only assume it's not a wide variety.

Eggs are about the same here. Milk is more like $3.50-$4.00 per gallon and steadily rising.

Houston has a WIDE variety of foods - not just Tex-Mex.

I don't know much about handcrafted goods within the city, as I live out in suburbs now. But the 1 year I did live there, I didn't find much information dissiminated as it relates to craft shows/art festivals, etc. But that's not to say that they don't exist.

As far as senior housing, I'm doing some google searches for you and will provide you with whatever links I come up with.

Here's a link to one mixed income senior housing community at 2100 Memorial. It's about 7 miles from M.D. Anderson so transportation would be necessary.

Houston Housing Authority

Here's a few others I located.
Houston Senior Living and Houston Senior Housing
