Maybe I have unreasonable expectations but when I hear an internet provider talk about things like "blazing fast," I expect it to really BE fast. But I never saw that kind of speed with my Road Runner service and it is not one bit better now that it is Comcast. I can barely remember back to when I had dial-up but frankly this doesn't strike me as a noticeable improvement. I really do like my Direct TV though, the recent addition of all those HD channels has been great although it is a bit confusing when I scan the lineup and all those letters are crammed together - HGTVHD, USAHD...

Default Thanks for the replies

Thanks for the replies, everybody. I'm going to check out the AT&T bundle package. Or I might just downgrade my cable package to the $18/mo basic package, since most of my favorite shows are on network TV anyway.

I had Comcast here for about 2 weeks. On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd rate them as a -15 overall. Direct TV absolutely blows them away. (Loving all the brand new HD channels!) Even the Comcast installer that hooked up the service (who showed up 4 hours late) has a dish.

Stay away from Comcast (TV, at least) at all costs. They are beyond horrible.
That said, the internet connection's still pretty good. It's a shame they rip you off with it if you don't have TV. (+$10/mo)

Default Comcast vs AT&T

No contest at all. AT&T by far has the better value for the price, and it's not with Dish Network. It's the new "U-Verse" Fiber-Optic TV service, coupled with High Speed Internet. The price starts at $59 for the Family Package, over 50 channels, to $129 for over 300 channels. The great thing is, it includes the HSI. The bad thing is that it is not available in every neighborhood yet. It is available North,South,East and West Houston, just not all over.

I don't understand why people still pay $40 a month for landline phones plus their cellphone. I haven't had a landline in 5 years and never think to myself, gee if only I had a phone plugged into my wall.

I am looking into U-verse, but still trying to determine how that would work with the TV's exactly. Looks like there is a receiver needed. Comes with 3, but $5 per xtra. The best package (all movie channels included and the fiber optic internet) is $124. You can add a foip phone lline, not sure of the cost there. That seems very reasonable? I considered scrapping the land line and using cell only, but are having an alarm monitoring system that would need to function through a phone line of some sort. Plus I seem to misplace my cell around the house a lot

Anyone else out there have Uverse and have comments or feedback on it? The service seems to have upped their coverage a lot. Even the new village of The Woodlands has it now.

U-verse rocks. Much cooler technology and a better value IMO. A tip: Ask for the $50 rebate in addition to the other incentives. They usually won't tell you about it, but they'll give it to you if you ask.

Dish Network with HBO package comes to about 150. I would get rid of the damned phone line if I didn't need it for my Tivo. Does this sound familiar? "Hello, we are calling to tell you about a wonderful oportuni-*click*"
