So the Taliban were more moderate than the Texans here. Cool.

Hardly. If you read the article, you'd realize that this wasn't a case where someone stole something, was taken to trial and sentenced to death.

This was a case where someone stole something, proceeded to run away from the officer, and continued to exercise poor judgement to the point where the officer allegedly believed he was in danger.

You know who else believes that petty thieves should die ? The Taliban. I'm sure many of the old right wing a-holes here would suggest a public execution similar to the ones that were carried out in Kabul arenas.
And yet they continue to flock to our state from all over the world. That's the great thing about this place -- if you don't like it, you can live somewhere else and nobody will mind.

Who in this thread said that petty thieves should die? Nobody.

Your remark about the suggestion of a public execution is just assinine.

What happened was sad--both for the little thug (yes, that's what she was) and the security guard who shot her. He probably thought that she was going to run him over, and I don't blame him a bit for defending himself. She could have killed HIM, and that would have been far MORE unfortunate.

She was most likely a habitual shoplifter. She had already been caught once (that we know of) by Walmart, and plea-bargained out of it. Some people just never learn, and the degree of stupidity on her part is just amazing.

"Court documents, meantime, reveal that Shelly Frey wasn’t even supposed to be at a Walmart. Earlier this year she pleaded guilty to stealing shirts and a package of meat, and agreed to avoid Walmart stores as part of a plea agreement."

I cant believe those who are almost defending this criminal's actions. If everyone stole "only $10" worth of stuff from Walmart (or any other store) how much do you think that would total...especially if everyone did it multiple times, as this criminal did.

And, in the minds of such criminals, stealing from shoppers/neighbors/strangers is just as desirable (or even more so) as stealing from big stores. If any of you defenders lost your cash/credit cards to a criminal like this, you'd be calling for stricter enforcement -- or you should be.

OK, guys... why don't we wait to hear the follow-up of the story.
Jumping in conclusion is really not bringing anything substantial in this topic.

I don't think it was posted for "consideration" - it's merely an opinion.

Except it wouldn't have happened there so its a non-issue - a carload of women alone wouldn't have been allowed to happen.

These thugs turned a misdemeanor theft into a felony robbery the moment they shoved the officer leaving the store.

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

The deceased person had stolen from Walmart before and was not even supposed to be there.

She didn't get shot for stealing, she got shot because she tried to run over a deputy.
