What to do, what to do?

Tear it down! Tear it down!

Opinions?

Should be done with the Astrodome, according to Facebook | Houston Politics | a Chron.com blog

Tear it down and make a huge parking lot. Why keep putting off the inevitable. We all know that'll be the outcome.

this has dirty politics written all over it...that Sports Corp. group who helps out in the dome's decision is ran by someone who is close to El Franco Lee

These County Commissioners know they'll try to squeeze every dime for their personal interests before getting rid of it as Ray Charles knows what to do with the dome

Rodeo Committee are the fools holding up the Astrodome they only want some thing were they can use it and make more like a hotel or parking lot garage. Let the people of Houston decide what happens to the Astrodome and screw the rodeo committee

The city claims the Astrodome is costing them over $2 million per year to maintain. Can anyone tell me how a building can cost that much to maintain when:

There are no employed people working there.
What little security needed is provided by Reliant.
The power remains turned on but no lights or utilities ever are.
There is no landscaping to maintain.
The city pays no taxes on the property since they own it.
The facility is paid for in full, no mortgage!

Recently the city hired an Astrodome Manager to remain on duty. His massive salary is a closely guarded secret but insiders say its in the $150,000 range. Probably Mayor Les Parkers family member. Can anyone tell me why a facility that has been closed for a dozen years needs a manager? Let alone one on a 6 figure salary?

Insurance must be carried, even though it's city owned. This cost is also not public information but how much can it be on a closed facility?

Make no mistake fellow Houstonians, we are being conned....AGAIN!!!!

Exactly,
The way corruption works in the US is that they say a stadium is worthless and then sell it a friend for pennies (i.e. Osteen's purchase of Compaq Center for $7.5 million = the price of the land alone)

That facility does require a manager. Ive heard horror stories about the inside of it. If left completely alone, it would quickly become a hazard to Reliant Stadium.

I know a person on the Board of Directors for the HLSR. They told me about a meeting where this was discussed, and a person who had an interest in seeing it remain standing was complaining about how much it would cost to tear down. The person I know asked how much steel that person thought was in the Dome. I dont know was the response. My friend stated from previous documents that the amount that should be recoverable would be enough based on steel scrap prices at that time( a few years ago) to completely pay for the demolition costs grossly overestimated by the person complaining.

Crickets.

It wasn't discussed again.

I believe there are definitely some people getting PAID over this deal. Wreck it. NO ONE thinks that facility is salvageable.
