What do you think about this rate? 10.5 cents for 12 months. Been a Reliant customer for 25 plus years. recently finished a plan with them for 8.4 cents. I use at least 2000 kwats per month.

That is high. Anything past 9cents is high. Reach Energy has a 9.1cents for 12months right now. Amigo 9.3 You are renewing your contract at a bad time. I would sign a 3month plan which is actually what I did a few weeks ago.

My contract ends up in 2 weeks so I'm shopping around too. All these companies have a "LOW" rate but then when you open up the lengthy pdf document, you can see a base charge ranging from 6.95 to 11.95.

Which is the cheapest plan out there including this base charge? I use less than 1000KWH (hence the base charge)

Should we just get a 3 month plan as suggested above and then review after summer? Are post summer 12 months rate low?

That's high, almost twice as much as you should be paying.

Those of you say you're getting 5-6c, I don't think you're adding all the fees and taxes.
powertochoose.org is one site. Another good one is mytruecost.com. You can use your actual CtrPoint account # and they'll use your actual usage to give you the best plan based on your usage.
This site is new to me so I don't know if there are any catches or problems with the site yet, but I do know they get a referral fee if you switch. I plan to compare it to powertochoose when it's time to renew my contract. One thing I like about mytruecost is that it factors in all the extra charges (like penalties for low usage, distribution fee, etc)

Rates have gone up a bit this year vs the past several years when it was going down.

If you need to renew right now 9.6c is about right. That's all-in, after taxes, fees and everything else.

READ THE FINE PRINT!!

I wouldn't sign with Reliant if it was the last electric company on earth. Period.

They beat Green Mountain Energy. They went from a decent 9ish with fees to about 13 just like that. And no, it wasn't variable.

I've actually been asked to leave an HEB because I like to "spread the word" to potential customers at their tents.
