I would love some input...

Is it more practical and convenient to have your child in day care closer to home or closer to work?

I think closer to home; my husband will likely get home before me and he can pick our daughter.

Besides that, there are more facilities/options closer to home because we live outside of the city.

On that note, could anyone recommend places in the Fall Creek/Atascocita/Eagle Springs area? I have a 2 year old, and would only need care 3 days a week. What is the going price for tuition? It's been a while since I've looked into this! Thanks

Check out the Weekday Learning Center at Atascocita United Methodist Church. They are more of a mothers day out program, but they may have some offerings that might work with your flexible schedule.

Another option--they are building a new day care facility on Atascocita Road right outside of the entrance of Eagle Springs. It looks like the building is going up pretty fast.

2 of my really good friends are teachers there..great place! I'm afraid I might need earlier times, though.

I think then, this answers your original question. You should find childcare close to work!

I used to teach at a preschool in Cypress. The majority of our parents worked nearby (mainly teachers) From time to time, a parent with a commute into town would try to enroll at our school because it was close to their house. Our preschool hours were 7am-6pm (with hefty "late" penalties) On a "perfect" day, it was no problem. But most parents were just a fender bender or rainstorm away from being late (either to work or daycare)

The problem is finding good child care, that's not full of waiting lists in the Heights area.

The WLC offers early (8:15) program and late (4:00). I would need just a tad bit later for her.

Talk to Beth Johnson at the WLC. She may have some suggestions for next year. Maybe you could work a deal with one of the teachers you know to take your child and keep them until you get home.

I echo what the previous poster said about finding a place closer to work. I used to work downtown when my daughter was little. My daycare was at a church about halfway between my work and home. The daycare had a strict 6 p.m. pick up time, and I had too really hustle to get there by 6. In Houston it seems like every day there is an overturned 18 wheeler or some other calamity tying up traffic, especially on the freeways. Once you get to the daycare and pick up your child, the rest of your commute will be a lot less stressful.

I always had mine at a place close to my work when I lived elsewhere, it's just easier. And we got a little time together each day that was just for us which was nice. Bit of a pain when I had to be somewhere else for the day and still needed to drop them off though!
