Hey guys, thinking about taking a lady out on the town and need some advice on the nice new places. I haven't really explored Houston in over two years, and if Houston is still the place I remember things get torn up and something new takes over quick, so I bet there are a lot of nice new places.

What are the latest bars and restaurants in H-town? Somewhere in the loop maybe near Montrose, Upper Kirby or Midtown? I hear the Museum District is actually a hot spot now, is that right?

Is Rice Village still hopping?

Montrose/Westheimer area
Underbelly- good food, wine, nice atmosphere, good place for a date
Hay Merchant- (these two places are right next door to each other, Hay Merchant is more casual, louder, good crowd, gets packed)
Uchi- very expensive sushi, but worth it
Royal Oak Bar and Grill- good menu, decent prices, sit at the front patio and you can watch the cars go by on Westheimer
Anvil-if you're into mixology, fancy expensive drinks

Midtown
Reef- awesome menu, great atmosphere, great date place, price is very reasonable IMO
Proof- bar, right next door to Reef. Gets packed, can be a douche crowd
Celtic Gardens- bar that also serves decent food, great patio area

There are a ton more places, depending on what kind of night you're planning for.

Upper Kirby... take her to Kata Robata. Take her to Anvil after that. Royal Oak is also a good chill spot. It depends on what you are looking for. Places like Celtic and Proof are for partying. Not really a date thing. Avoid Third Floor. It is lame and the line gets crazy. Hay Merchant is mainly beer. Most girls are not into that. You will need reservations for Pass and it will be expensive. There are some good spots in the Heights. Liberty Kitchen is great. Glass Wall if you want more fancy. There are lots of good chill bars there too. Good luck

Any dress code for these places. Sometimes the bouncers are worse than Hollywood. Last time I almost couldn't get into a nice bar because I was wearing a V neck with a blazer. It's really dress to impress in Houston, no?

Thanks for all the info guys! I really want to party after dinner so how is that place Proof?

Get a hotel downtown and hit up some of the new spots. Dinner at Batanga/Hearsay/Hotel Icon - drinks at Bad News Bar and some other bars on the block. You can't go wrong with ending the night at one of the best bars in Houston (it's not new) - La Carafe.

No specific dress code, but collar shirts and nice shoes for guys are always a plus. Proof can be fun, depends on the company you're with. It's a bar, it's a club, it has outside and indoor areas. Really loud. If you get there early (before 11) there's no line and they're not as "strict" on who they let in. It's when the line starts forming they get picky if you're a group of guys but ladies never have trouble getting in.
