I've always gotten very good advice on this forum and I'm reaching out again for some recommendations and advice for those more experienced than we are. This is our first home so everything is a learning process for us. The A/C on the lower level of our home is on the blink - it shut off today and got to 79 degrees before we realized it was warmer than usual. My hubby called John Moore, they came out and said the 3.5 ton unit on the bottom level is indicating its on its way out. As it got into the evening about 7pm it came back on but would stay on for about 5 minutes at a time at first. The guy from John Moore said during the day when its hot it's shutting itself off as a pre-caution and as it gets cooler it will stay on - that is the case right now as it's on and working fine. To replace both units as both units are the original units that came with the house when it was built - 16 years ago its $14,600. This is for 14 seer Amana units - 3.5 ton unit for down stairs and a 2.5 ton for upstairs our house is 2,500 square feet. If we replace the downstairs unit only with a 16 seer, 3.5 ton its $8,100, a 14 seer is at $6,400. Do these prices sound about right? Can anyone recommend other companies as I'd like to get a few quotes? Thanks so much in advance.

Please don't call John Moore ever again. Expensive crooks.
Call Mike Waters. He's done literally 100s of AC systems around town for Aggies and others who post on the Texags forum. If anyone asks for an AC rec he's the first one people mention. Tell him Clint referred you.
