I had a FB friend who recently posted about seeing drones in Galveston. With all the recent news about drones, I realized that I have never actually seen one in person.

Has anyone here spotted any around Houston?

I have seen them at the hobby shop. Decent ones run around $500-$700. But I didn't see the ones which look like planes, I saw the spaceship kind.

Yes, someone was flying one near the Brittany Bay rec center, which is a neighborhood in League City. So you know there are lots more out there.

I saw one circling the williams tower in the galleria early this year. My SO said it could have been pipeline company getting permission to fly it there. Where he works they have several.

Since the press seems to call pretty much any RC flying vehicle a drone, it's hard to say.

Default Buffalo Bayou Park

I saw someone flying one at night at Buffalo Bayou Park, or Eleanor Tinsley Park, 'not sure what it's called, but on Allen Parkway and Taft area. I believe the guy had a GoPro on it as well, it was an awesome night because of the extra large moon, and downtown in the background. I've said it before here... Houston has one of the most awesome downtown skylines at night that I've seen from Buffalo Bayou Park, if you have not seen it, check it out some night.

I've seen several. They've really come a long way with the mosquito drones. I think they're extracting my DNA and personal information when they bite.

It's all good until one crashes into a home, a vehicle or worse a person with so many amateurs flying these things all over.

Or crash one into a Yellowstone geyser... Yes drones can be awesome, but there is waaayyy too much potential for abuse.

I was hanging out at Lake Somerville (OK, I know, not in Houston) a few Saturdays ago, and one flew directly overhead and hung out for a little while, then flew off. My first encounter. When the era comes when drones are just an everyday part of life, will we all fondly "remember our first"?
