Ok I need some help. I am extremely overwhelmed with the amount of suburb communities in the surrounding Houston area. I need some input from families who live in these cities. I would like a family oriented neighborhood for a reasonable price, with excellent schools and safe. I will be working as a nurse at the Medical Center. Thanks in advance for your responses.

You are looking at a commute of an hour or more from some of those suburbs (Katy, Cypress, Spring)

Have you looked in Pearland?

I'd suggest Katy or Richmond as the drive wouldn't bother me.

The most important question is budget. Everything else is moot if you don't give price. Reasonable is a relative word. Some people consider reasonable at 400k, while somebody else think 150k here is reasonable.

It's an hour currently. What about in five years? Please don't recommend a suburb so far from the work location .there are plenty of excellent burbs closer to TMC.

Richmond would be a 45 minute commute without traffic, and with traffic at least and hour. If there is an accident....an hour and thirty?

Pearland is a great suburb with lots of homes in different price points.

Friendswood might work too.im not sure on the commute time from there though.

Sugar Land is closer than Richmond, Katy, Spring etc....

if you must live further out, just realize that Houston is becoming very popular and commutes are getting worse every year.

Cypress is great. Love the trees, greenery and demographics. I commute to the Med Center daily. It's a tough commute, even if you use the toll lanes.

With that said, if you don't have to commute during rush hour, you can make it from Cypress to the Med Center in just 45 minutes. (compare that to rush hour 1 hr in the mornings, 1.5 hours in the evenings).

Mr. Football - You are exactly right. I can make it from Cypress to Greenway Plaza in 35 - 40 minutes or so on 290, but I also leave the house at 6am. Wait until 645 and that changes to an hour.

I love Cypress too. Cypress is all about being able to live with 290. For me, I commute to the Galleria every day and at 5.15am it's 20-25 mins. I leave at or before 3.30 and it's normally 30-35 mins home. Obviously there are exceptions but those are pretty standard numbers for me.
