Hi guys,

Anyone have recommendations on auto insurance?

I am currently comparing State Farm and Progressive. Progressive saves me about $35/month.

Does anyone have any other recommendations?

Thanks in advance...

insurance is going to be different for everyone. call up some places and see what they charge. you cant go by what people say here. and your credit score will effect it quite a bit.

I have had State Farm for many years. I know they are usually on the more expensive side but they give me peace of mind. In 2013-14, one of our cars was rear-ended by a driver who did not stop in time. State Farm took care of it and made sure the other insurance paid up. 6 months later, the same car was totalled in an accident when an 86 year old lady ran the red light and hit me. We processed the claim through State Farm. They first paid us what I thought was a fair retail value for the totalled car. Then they went after the other driver/insurance and made sure they got every penny back. It took 6-8 months but we had moved on with our life within a week of the accident.

The bottom line....they might be expensive but you get your money's worth. At least we have to this point. It also helps to have a local agent you can talk to.

My insurance and I had to deal with them when I got hit by a driver insured by them. They kept dragging things on and on and trying to turn the blame around on me even though the police report said their driver was at fault. Thankfully my insurance (USAA) did not put up with any of that BS and covered my cars damage and then went after them.

I would not necessarily say that is a bad thing...you want an insurance company to fight for you so they were doing their job. I wouldn't base buying insurance on dealing with them from the opposite end.

I got an insurance agent recently and he shopped my rate for me and saved me roughly $600/yr on Auto insurance, and $500/year on home insurance. In the past I had always just shopped my own rates online, but he was much more knowledgeable and actually got me better coverage for cheaper. I was using Progressive and found they were far more expensive for me than Liberty Mutual.
