It's relative. Once you get used to the summer temps being 95 every day, a dip of a few degrees below will feel great. But for me, the summer of 2011 was the worst...what was it, 30 days straight of 100+, rare or no rain? That drought summer was my threshold. That, and when the reservoirs near my house caught on fire, I knew it was time to leave.

But on the bright side, now I live in a more arid climate and 95 feels fine. Going elsewhere, people complain about summer days in the 80's, and it feels refreshing to me. Converse is, after living in Houston, days below 40 feel brutally cold!

I happened to be living in Wichita Falls during that summer of 2011. It was awful, and a major factor in our decision to relocate to another state (Colorado) less than a year later.

And now, we're back in Texas. We must be gluttons for punishment. But when my Denver friends are posting pictures of the snow in January, I will enjoy the weather here.

Summer temps are known to have risen over the years even in New Orleans, due to UHI; imagine the degree of summer temp inflation Houston must have experienced, being a much more built up area.
No, first IAH reach 95 °F not 94 °F and the William B hobby is located at 15 km in the South-East of Downtown Houston and more prone to the Gulf moderation effect, Downtown Houston is more inland with a greater UHI effect, if I want to try to imagine August average high for Downtown, it would be more like 93-94 °F than 92 °F.

Part of your search problem might be that you're searching for a treshold instead of a threshold.
