To the OP: Since you're working in Sweeny, it might make sense to live in an exurb in your case. Shadow Creek Ranch in Pearland is a straight shot down 288 and Rodeo Palms is much closer. Neighborhoods are popping up along the freeway towards Lake Jackson/Freeport. I would highly recommend Shadow Creek Ranch in your case.
Isn't Silverlake even closer?

Depends on where in Silverlake and where in Shadow Creek Ranch. I do like Silverlake better myself and if schools are a consideration - Silverlake is Pearland ISD, whilde SCR is Alvin ISD.

AFAIK Silverlake as a whole is closer to Sweeney than SCR. SCR is in northern Pearland, while Silverlake is south of Pearland in an unincorporated area (AFAIK parts of it are actually in the ETJ for Manvel, not Pearland)

No, Silverlake is not south of Pearland itself. It is south of SCR though for the most part. Sweeny is still an hour away from Pearland. SCR is 59 minutes. From my house in Southwyck, it's 58 minutes. From the Silverlake Elementary School, it's an hour and 4 minutes.

Here is a map of Pearland subdivisions.

The map says "City of Pearland subdivisions" so I cross-checked it with this annexation map: http://copgisweb.ci.pearland.tx.us/w...tion%20Map.pdf - Unless it was just annexed in 2016, Silverlake is not (yet) in the Pearland city limits. It seems like many of these "subdivisions" are outside the city limits.

Yes, some are not yet in the city, but are in Pearland ISD. The parts that are not are in a Manvel ETJ I think.

I am in Southwyck and Southwyck IV is annexed, but Southwyck I and Southwyck V are not yet annexed.

Agreements would lead to eventual annexations of Silverlake MUDs by Pearland - Houston Chronicle

On the map in this comprehensive plan, I live in section 1 which has been annexed. This was before Massey Ranch Elementary was in the works, btw. The other areas are planned to be annexed and were supposed to be annexed in 2014, but I don't think that happened. There is contention about it - Silverlake homeowners pay non-resident fees for the recreation center, I think because they don't pay city taxes. They pay MUD taxes instead.

I like Sugarland because it reminds me of Orange County. I can enjoy a luxary lifestyle at an affordable price.

I wanted to say thank you to everybody who commented! Based on replies here and elsewhere, we decided to buy in the Westbury/Willowbend area. Being in the city just fit better for us right now. Maybe in a 5-10 years when we have kids we will move out to some of the wonderful suburbs y'all have mentioned but for now we will stay as close in as we can afford.

I think you will find the schools to your liking as well, they get better every year.
