Within Texas, the Houston metro is far and away the leader for corporate relocations and expansions. It ranked No. 2 in the nation in 2017 with 196 new and expanded facilities. Austin didn't rank nationally and came in No. 5 regionally in the South Central United States with 51 projects.

The Chicago metro was No. 1 in the nation with 402 projects in the past year. Dallas came in at No. 3 overall with 192 new or expanded facilities.

Houston Helicopter company makes acquisition to diversify away from O&G, helping to diversify itself and the Greater Houston economy.

Houston-based Bristow Group Inc. (NYSE: BRS), which provides industrial aviation services, announced Nov. 9 it will acquire a privately held company for $560 million and its CEO will retire.
Bristow is buying Columbia Helicopters Inc. from the Lematta family and current management using debt, newly issued shares and cash. The deal is expected to close before the end of the year

The combined company will have 304 operating aircraft, and 58 percent of its pro forma revenue for the trailing 12-month period will come from the oil and gas industry.

Columbia generated approximately $281 million in revenue for the 12 months ended Sept. 30, and a significant amount of the company’s revenue comes from the U.S. government. Bristow reported Nov. 9 that its operating revenue for the second quarter of its fiscal year 2019, which ended Sept. 30, was over $334.7 million, down about 6.5 percent year over year.

A Design District has popped up in West Houston just inside the Loop near Memorial Park adding to Houston's economic diversity.

The area, which some have dubbed the Houston Design District, has become a classic example of what economic development specialists call a cluster, a dense concentration of similar companies that testifies to the enduring benefits of physical proximity, even in the Internet age. Clusters — think movies in Hollywood, technology in Silicon Valley and, of course, energy in Houston — provide the kind of access to customers, talent pools, support services and the exchange of knowledge that attracts more companies, talent and investment in the kind of virtuous circle that drives economic growth.

Commercial space exploration adding to not only Houston's but the Worlds economic diversity. Moon landings, space mining and Space Force capture imaginations at SpaceCom

Nuclear propulsion, spaceport development and improved education in science, math and technical subjects are among priorities that the National Space Council should examine as it crafts policies for returning humans to the moon and spurring more commercial activity in space, according to attendees at Houston’s annual Space Commerce Conference and Exposition.

Houston-based company among nine tapped by NASA to build moon landers

Houston-based Intuitive Machines was one of nine companies tapped Thursday by NASA to build moon landers as part of a new strategy in which the space agency is a customer rather than a builder.
“When we go to the moon we want to be one customer of many customers in a robust marketplace between the Earth and the moon,” NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine said during a news conference livestreamed from NASA Headquarters in Washington, D.C. “We want multiple providers that are competing on cost and innovation.”

Taking this approach will allow NASA to focus on furthering human exploration to the Moon and then to Mars.

A transportation and distribution "corridor" is developing along I-10 in Katy, adding to Houston's economic diversity. This area is so attractive that Costco has decided it wants to own property there instead of leasing, and approached a developer who already had plans for the property.

Hines has called off plans to develop the Pintail Crossing business park in Katy and has sold the land to Costco, according to property records.

Hines announced Monday that it sold the 150-acre site at the northwest corner of Interstate 10 and Igloo Road to an undisclosed user. The company said the buyer will develop and own a large-format distribution center serving Katy and the surrounding area.

"In the midst of our planning effort for our Pintail Crossing development, we were approached by a user/owner whose interest was to own, rather than to lease the property," Hines managing director Charlie Meyer said in an announcement.

The partners announced plans in May to inject 2.2.M SF of distribution space into Katy. The business park was slated to be situated between Amazon and Igloo's distribution centers at the northwest corner of Interstate 10 and Igloo Road.

Sounds like Costco has some big plans for this property !
