But I'll stand by my original statement that in my view, Uptown is a gorgeous area.
Agreed. There are beautiful and ugly parts of every city, including Austin, Houston and Boston. There are sections of Boston that are butt-ass ugly. I'll take Houston or Austin over Boston any day...in that order. Boston is historical, that's about it. As far as cities, these days Boston is a relic.

San Antonio is just as close to the Hill County as Austin is and Fort Worth is only 40 miles from the Northern sections of the Hill Country.

I'm very happy living in Houston.

With my current income, I'd rather be in Houston than Austin (the only other city where I have lived).

Since I've never lived in San Antonio or Dallas, I can't say if I'd like them more.

I guess the fact that I haven't looked for opportunities elsewhere, I must be pretty happy here.

Just depends on perspective. When I visit Houston I'm fascinated with the international culture everywhere I go, including the suburbs. The inner city is really nice in that respect. The city has great architecture, pretty trees, and nicely landscaped medians (not all, but many). I currently live in Austin, where our median landscaping consists of trash and weeds, and there's no architecture outside of downtown. Cultural diversity is severely lacking in Austin. It's just plain boring unless you're into the club scene. True, if you have a lot of wealth, west Austin is great due to the natural scenery.

I like Dallas and San Antonio, and have been reading a lot of good things about Fort Worth, which I need to explore soon.

I'd put Houston at the top, and Austin at the bottom.

The part of Houston that really, to me, doesn't have an equal in Texas is Uptown. The area reminds me of a mini version of Wilshire Blvd. in West LA. It's visually stunning in my view.
Just yesterday when I was visiting Houston, we drove through Uptown and I made the comment that it reminded me of Wilshire in West LA. I agree that Uptown really is visually stunning and gets more and more every year. I saw the new Amegy building yesterday for the first time. I'm glad it's adding to the part of Uptown east of 610. That building is incredible.
