What can you expect to pay for renters insurance in Houston? We are considering moving back and are trying to figure out a budget.

Thanks Poltracker ~ We are thinking of moving back to Houston and living in one of my in-laws rent houses. We would be living there rent free but I still want to have renters insurance for our things. I'm trying to figure out a budget so that we can see if we can make a go of it down there.

Mine is something like $150/yr. Per month, it's less than ordering a couple pizzas.

The low cost of renters insurance is one thing that keeps renting generally cheaper than owning, no matter what you might've heard or seen promoted. Insuring an actual building, especially here near the Texas coast, is a lot more expensive than insuring just your stuff inside it.

With the property taxes here, and the fact that you can't claim any exemptions for rent properties, you've got some generous in-laws...

Yes I do. When we moved 11 years ago, we did it to be closer to my family here in South Dakota. But since we've lived here my parents passed away and we really want to be closer to family. I just hope that it all works out for us. Thanks for your information.
