Now on 8/29/2017 (Yesterday) Harvey was pounding Galveston. I didn't write down stats but they were having storm force winds, rain, and a 1-2' storm surge. Yes that was yesterday.
Yep and just another day at the beach.

Look at those hotels along Seawall Blvd. The first level is a parking garage, the hotel doesn't even start until the second floor.

They are more savvy in Galveston about living the Gulf South. The hurricane of 1900 taught them that the hard way.

OP continues to embarrass themselves. Kid doesn't even know what the word "irony" even means.

More savvy? You really need to stop before you embarrass yourself. Oh wait, it's too late...

They're on the frickin' Seawall. Of course they're gonna build garages on the ground floor.

And look how savvy the beach house builders are... they built up on stilts, while those dumb Houstonians built on the ground.

Irony: noun: a state of affairs or an event that seems deliberately contrary to what one expects and is often amusing as a result.

Expectation: Houston would fare better than Galveston
Result: Galveston fared better than Houston
Amusing: The center of Houston/Galveston metro area was moved from Galveston to Houston circa 1900.

I think I pretty much nailed it, this is the perfect irony.

This is what Galveston did after the hurricane of 1900.

Does Houston have the wherewithal to do this?

Nah you got it pretty wrong. Especially if you think Galveston was the center of the area even back then. The Houston side was larger.

But hey, dont let facts let in the way.

What's the area of Galveston? How many square miles? What was the density of Galveston when the raised the island 5'?

Your attempted comparison of Houston to Galveston during this event is absurd, why not compare Houston to Bastrop at this point? Posting videos of storm shutters, well I'm sure that would have kept all the houses in Houston safe from 40-50 inches of rain
